Heart of the Wolf

What happens when a veterinarian ends up a patient in his own animal clinic?

Dr. Dae Anderson needs to lose the deadbeat boyfriend who is holding him back, but Jack is determined to hang on to Dae—even if he has to resort to violence.

Dae has worked hard to fit in among humans, and if his secret gets out, he’ll lose everything. His veterinary assistant, Sean, might be just the man to stand with Dae… against Jack and the world.

Courage of the Wolf

The most painful changes don’t involve the shape of the body, but of the heart….

Just as Dae and Sean are settling in to life as a couple, Dae is contacted by his brother, who still lives with his former pack and who exiled him for being gay.

If he refuses to return to Wyoming, a sociopathic alpha will slaughter Dae’s family one member at a time. And deep down, Dae knows he must confront his past before he can truly have a loving future with Sean. First, they have to stay alive.

Running With the Moon edition by Kiernan Kelly Romance eBooks

This was my first book by Kiernan Kelly as I was not disappointed!

This book is actually two short stories of Dae and Sean getting together and surviving a crazy ex- boyfriend in story #1 and overcoming a family issue and bad Alpha issue in story #2.

Dae was an alpha wolf that had been banished from his pack as a boy because he was gay. He found his way through life and opened a veterinary clinic that he loved. He wasn’t perfect. Dae saw himself as just average and having to not hide his sexuality but not flaunt it either. I loved how, as the reader, I saw Dae as he viewed himself, but when Sean came along and I got to see him through his eyes, ones with love and attraction as their filter, it was a shift in perception for me as well. I loved the part of Dae having to be a wolf before Sean knew that he was a shifter, it was totally cute and endured me to them as a couple.

Jack was his ex in story #1 and as much as he fit the part of stalkery ex I felt like there was something about his character that didn’t make me really believe that was who he was. It felt more like, yeah it made sense for the story but who the character was. In story #2 with the bad Alpha that was not an issue at all. Kiernan wrote him and I immediately felt, because of the writing, the menace and hate pouring of that crazy wolf.

Overall, the story was one that I hadn’t read before the the shifters were not unique in how they were written. Typical wolves in a unique story with bad guys, a human with a submissive in bed but an Alpha outside of it, learning the truth after years of pain, and crazy guys who got what they deserved.

Running with the Moon by Kiernan Kelly
4 stars
M/M Shifter Romance
This is a 2 part story, but both parts are included
Triggers Abusive relationship (emotional), murder, arson
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

PART 1
Dae is an amazing vet. He loves his practice and loves his animals. What he doesn't love is his love life. He has been dating Jack who is emotionally abusive and despite his better judgment, keeps taking Jack back.

Dae is clueless as to the affection that Sean, his vet tech has for him and has had for him for quite some time. Sean is kind, gentle, loving and loves the vet practice almost as much as Dae.

When Dae has an accident in his shifted form, Sean comes to his rescue. Dae admires how Sean cares for him, speaks with him and realizes that in order to get out of the form he's in, he's going to have to trust Sean.

Sean is shocked, but loves Dae regardless of what form he's in. They begin to develop a relationship and this is where I believe that their previous friendship allows their relationship to go at warp speed. However, when Jack comes back and makes waves, you really get to see how together, Sean and Dae are more stable and stronger than ever.

PART 2
This is where Dae confides in Sean that his pack has called him home. There has been a series of tragedies and Dae has to go home to see if he can help. Despite being an outcast, he has to try.

Sean is both excited and wary because he can't believe that Dae's family could simply throw him away. You get to see a very different side of Sean - he's strong, forceful and almost alpha in this story and I loved getting to see his protective side come out.

This is a sad story about family not knowing how to handle loyalty, but eventually, they come together and combine as a real family.

This was a cute series of stories that shows what love and family can really accomplish.
3.5 Stars!

This is the story of Dae, a veterinarian and wolf Shifter, and his veterinary assistant Sean, who loves Dae with all his heart yet keeps it to himself because of Dae's tumultuous relationship with his cheating drug addict ex-boyfriend. When Dae is hurt on a run and ends up in his own clinic, he is forced to reveal himself to Sean. To Dae's surprise, Sean doesn't turn his back on him and instead the two discover they were made for one another.

Unfortunately, things are never simple and Dae's ex isn't ready to give up his free ride. He's in trouble and the only one who has what he needs is Dae. He'll do anything to come out ahead and if he needs to get rid of Sean in the process he doesn't care.

This is an easy, fast-paced read. There wasn't a ton of substance here but you get the picture pretty quickly. Since this is only part one of the book everything gets wrapped up pretty quickly without a ton of focus on the relationship between Sean and Dae. It seems we'll get more of that in part two.

Part two

Dae has to go home for the first time since being thrown out of his pack for being gay over a decade ago. His family turned their backs on him and now to be going home and introducing them to Sean, his human Mate, he's apprehensive. It's unavoidable, though, because Dae has to find out what's been happening to the pack and help his little sister who was brutally attacked.

This part of the story had a much more serious feel to it. I definitely enjoyed it better and found myself invested in the outcome of Dae's visit, the inevitable confrontation with his ex Alpha and what his relationship with his family would become. It's sad and at times made me mad but in the end I enjoyed it. There were some points that I could see potential for further stories if the author chose to write a sequel and I'd definitely check it out.
